THE Calculation: Simple...
MPG = Mile Per Gallon = Miles divided by Gallons = MPG
Procedure:
1. You fill up.
2. You immediately reset your trip odometer. If it's digital you may need to hold it for a couple of seconds for it to react.
3. You drive around a good trip or a couple of days.
4. You fill up again. Write down the Miles from your trip odometer and the Gallons on the gas pump.
5. You enter into a calculator the Miles divided by the Gallons and the result is your MPG.
6. Go back to step 2.
Example: You drove 200 Miles and used 10 Gallons of gas.
200 Miles divided by 10 Gallons = 20 MPG
Records: Treat yourself to a little pad that will fit in your glove compartment.
Go ahead, you deserve it! Then at every fill up jot these numbers and results down in the pad. Go to the "Data"
button and look at some of the other notes that I make too.
When you change the oil or do a tune up jot that down too.
When and if the time comes to sell your car this could greatly impress the buyer. I record the price per gallon for
posterity. For kicks I can then look back to see what the hell is going on! Will we look back at the good
old days when gas was $4.00 per gallon or will we laugh at the notion of having had paid $4.00 per gallon due to
the war time price gouging of greedy and unchecked oil companies???
